Edward of Woodstock – The Black Prince

Edward of Woodstock excels in dealing massive single target skill damage. Edward currently is the only commander in the game, who has a rage requirement for his active skill above 1000. Because of the unique traits of his Primary Skill, he is very limited in his pairings. Edward used to be a formidable rally leader, however, his role as go-to rally leader was short-lived with the introduction of Attila – Takeda (feels like we mention A-T every time the word “rally” comes up). Anyways, let’s talk about his skills.

Edward Archer's Honor
Archer’s Honor
Active Skill
Rage Requirement: 1350
Deals massive damage to a single target. Once used, will reduce the rage of Edward’s troops by 300 (cannot drop below 0 rage).
Upgrade Preview:
Direct Damage Factor: 1500 / 1700 / 1900 / 2200 / 2500
Damage Factor (When Secondary Commander): 750 / 850 / 950 / 1100 / 1250

This skill hits hard but because of Rage Requirement, you won’t be able to use it frequently. One way to overcome the long Rage Requirement is to have him as a secondary commander but then you’re reducing your damage factor by 50%. Because of this skill, Edward is very limited in his pairings.

Vengeful Crusade
Passive Skill
Increases archer units’ health and march speed while troops are on the map.
Upgrade Preview:
Archer Health Bonus: 10% / 15% / 20% / 25% / 30%
Archer March Speed Bonus: 10% / 15% / 20% / 25% / 30%

Archers are generally squishy, with this skill you’ll be able stay a bit longer in the battlefield and it gives you some mobility which allows you flea or catch up to someone.

Crécy’s Campaign
Passive Skill
When the army led by this commander contains only archer units, increases skill damage, and increases damage dealt to infantry units by archer units.
Upgrade Preview:
Skill Damage Bonus: 5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%
Damage To Infantry Units Increased By: 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5%

Moar damage. Players generally use Infantry to defend their structures which makes this skill even better. 5% damage bonus amplifies damage from all sources.

Limoges’ Ambush
Passive Skill
When the army led by this commander is at 70% strength or higher, increases the attack of archer units and decreases defense by 10%.
Upgrade Preview:
Archer Attach Bonus: 15% / 20% / 25% / 30% / 40%

Don’t fight too deep into the territory when you’re using Edward, try to fight close to your city. This will allow you to refresh troops easily whenever your health drops below 70%.

All or Nothing
New Skill: Passive Skill
Increases normal attack and counterattack damage by 50% for 2 seconds after using a skill.

With Tomyris

For this build we reduce our rage regeneration as much as we could, allowing Tomyris to stack posion.

Everyone else

Can I use Edward of Woodstock as 5-1-1-1?

You could but we’d recommend that you use him when he is at least 5-5-1-1. Edwards’s 2nd skill Vengeful Crusade adds both mobility and survivability that Archers lacks

Can I use Edward of Woodstock as a Secondary Commander?

Absolutely not.

Edward or Ramesses II, which one should I go for?

Ramesses II is definitely the better of the two.

Who is the best secondary commander for Edward?

Tomyris is the best secondary but Yi Seong-Gye is just as good. However, Edward-Tomyris pair is prone to getting swarmed and there’s not much they can do about it but Edward-YSG pair can take out surrounding armies quite easily thanks to YSG’s AoE damage.
