Mulan Commander Guide: Skills, Pairs 2020

Mulan was a legendary Chinese warrior from the Northern and Southern dynasties period of Chinese history, originally described in the Ballad of Mulan. In the ballad, Hua Mulan, disguised as a man, takes her aged father’s place in the army. Mulan fought for twelve years and gained high merit, but she refused any reward and retired to her hometown.
Overview
Mulan is a Legendary commander who was initially released for the Chinese version of Rise of Kingdoms but as of 9/23/2020, she is available for the Global version as well. You can obtain her from the Legendary Heroine event and later from Golden Chests.

She is an Integration, Peacekeeping, and Support commander who provides AoE buffs for allies and single target debuff on enemies.
If you’re a F2P/Low Spender just let her go and work on another commander. She is great but not that great that you’d want to spend your hard-earned sculptures on a Gold Chest commander. Let the big guys max her out.
Pros of Mulan
Cons of Mulan
Mulan Skills
Filial Piety Active | Rage Requirement: 1000 Troops led by this commander and allies within the circular area of effect gain increased attack, defense, and health, and increased march speed for 2 seconds. Upgrade Preview: Attack, Defense, and Health Bonus: 5%/ 7% / 9%/ 12%/ 15% March Speed Bonus: 5%/ 10%/ 15%/ 20% / 25% |
Ever wondered what the Legendary version of Joan of Arc would look like? Well, this it. Unlike Joan, she provides all of the three stats to every unit and she provides bonus march speed as well. If you receive buff from both Mulan and Joan at the same time, Joan’s buff for a specific troop will override the same buff from Mulan. For Example, Lets say an Infantry commander receives 15% stats to all stats from Mulan and 30% Health from Joan, Joan’s 30% Health will override Mulan’s 15% Health but 15% Attack and 15% Defense from Mulan’s skill will still apply.
Be a “Man“ Passive | Reduces damage taken while surrounded. Counterattacks have a 20% chance to reduce the target’s rage. This effect can only trigger once every 5 seconds. Upgrades: Damage Reduction: 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5% Rage Reduction: 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 |
This skill is decent but nothing crazy about it. Rage Reduction is completely random and 5% Damage Reduction doesn’t do much when 3-4 marches are surrounding you.
Khan Slayer Passive | Both commanders in the army gain additional experience. Upgrades: Experience Bonus: 15% / 30% / 45% / 70% / 95% |
95% Experience Bonus is highest in the game currently, allowing you to level up your commanders in the Lost Kingdom pretty fast.
One-of-a-kind General Passive | Increases attack. When serving as the secondary commander, her using active skill causes the target to take increased damage from all sources for 3 seconds. Upgrades: Attack Bonus: 10% / 12% / 14% / 16% / 20% Damage Taken Increased By: 10% / 12% / 14% / 16% / 20% |
20% Attack Bonus regardless of troop type is pretty good but the main highlight of this skill is that every time you use your Active Skill, you will debuff your target. This target will take increased damaged up to 20% from all sources and from every march that’s attacking it. Excellent swarming utility that doesn’t rely on RNG.
Defender of the Empire Enhanced: Filial Piety | Troops led by this commander and allies within the circular area of effect gain 20% increased attack, defense, and health, and 30% increased march speed for 3 seconds. |
Total of 15% stat increase and 5% March Speed increase when using Active Skill.
Best Talent Build for Mulan
She is only suitable as a Primary when you’re farming barbarians for Bonus Experience, her Integration tree doesn’t allow her to be a Primary Commander in actual fights.

Best talents for Mulan:
- Rejuvenate
- Elixir
- Loose Formation
- Curing Chant
- Trophy Hunter
Spend the remaining points however you plan on using her.
Best Pairings for Mulan
You can pair any commander with her when you’re farming Barbarians for Bonus Experience. In open field fights however, it’s better to pair her with a relatively durable commander to get the most out of her skills.
![]() Richard I | Richard allows Mulan to survive longer and thereby buffing allies and debuffing an enemy for a longer period of time. He is probably the best pairing you can have to pair with Mulan. |
![]() Charles Martel | Another tank, although not as much as Richard but you get a fair bit of mobility if your Martel is maxed. |
![]() Saladin | Saladin provides Skill Damage Reduction, Counterattack reduction, and other stats that help Mulan survive longer but also deals a significant amount of damage. Saladin can generate a good amount of rage thanks to the Support tree, allowing the pair to use their Active Skills frequently. |
![]() Constantine | Although Constantine is a tank, because of his supportive skills he is a priority target in most cases. Having two high priority targets in a single march is not a good idea but if you’re willing to look past that then you get an AoE Buff machine, that’s not only durable but also generates huge amounts of rage to spam those skills. |
![]() Leonidas I | Leonidas is sort of a hybrid commander, he is not a tanky as some of the other commanders mentioned here but he deals a lot more damage than them. |
