Ramesses II the Great is regarded as one of the most powerful Pharaoh during the ancient Egyptian period. In his time, he led several military expeditions which reclaimed the lost territories stolen by Nubians and Hittites. He also was responsible for suppressing the Nubians revolts and carried campaign against Libya which ultimately led to expansion of Egyptian Empire.

Through the Battle of Kadesh which dominates Ramesses II military prowess and power. He enjoyed a few outright military victories over the enemies. During his reign from 1273 B.C to 1216 B.C, the army size of Egyptian Empire has grown to 100,000 — a formidable force that Ramesses II used to exert Egyptian’s sphere of influence.

Overview

Ramesses II is a Legendary Archer commander in Rise of Kingdoms. He is good in both the open field and in leading rallies, I’d argue that he is even better than Edward in leading rallies. Unlike most Archer commanders, Ramesses relies more on Normal Attack than Skill damage. Don’t get me wrong, he deals significant skill damage, but that’s not his specialty. For an Archer commander, he is pretty tanky with Skill Damage reduction, heals, and bonus Defense.

Ramesses II Skills

Ceremony of Karnak
Active Skill
Rage Requirement: 1000
Deals continuous damage to a single target, and reducing the target’s defense for 2 seconds.
Upgrade Preview:
Additional Damage Factor: 500 / 550 / 600 / 700 / 800
Defense Reduction: 5% / 10% / 15% /20% /25%

This active skill deals 800 damage per second and reduces the enemy defense by 25%. Defense reduction only amplifies his normal attacks but also increases his skill damage dealt for 1 turn which.

The Poem of Pentaur
Passive Skill
Increases archery units’ attack while on the map.
Upgrade Preview:
Archer Attack Bonus: 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%

Flat 40% Bonus Attack that goes really well with his Active Skill.

Army of Amun
Passive Skill
When the army contains only archer units, it decreases the skill damage taken. There is a 10% chance when attacked to increase troops attack and march speed. Lasts for 3s.
Upgrade Preview:
Skill Damage Taken Reduction: 10% / 15% / 20% / 25% / 30%
Archer Attack Bonus: 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%
Archer March Speed Bonus: 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% /40%

Skill Damage Reduction part of this skill is always available but the Attack and March Speed Bonus procs only when you are attacked. What’s interesting about this is that it says “When Attacked” and not “When taking Damage”, which means if you are attacking someone and you’re only taking Counterattack damage because they are not attacking you, this skill won’t work.

What I like the most about the March Speed Bonus is that, unlike Cavalry commanders, whose Bonus March Speed is designed in a way to chase down enemies, this one leans towards retreating which is more suitable for an Archer commander.

Nefertari’s Companionship
Passive Skill
Troops’ normal attacks have a 10% chance to heal slightly wounded units and increase troops’ defense for 3 seconds.
Upgrade Preview:
Healing Factor 200 / 300 / 350 / 400 /500
Defense Bonus: 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40%

Unlike the previous skill, this skill requires you to attack someone for it to proc. Healing Factor on this isn’t too high to make it a high-risk skill like Richard or too low to even notice its impact.

King of Kings
Enhanced: Ceremony of Karnak
Deals continuous damage (Damage Factor 1000) to a single target, reducing the target’s defense (Defense Reduction 30%) and prevents healing for 2 seconds.

Ramesses’ expertise increases the damage factor of his Active and also the Defense Reduction but the main highlight of this skill is that it completely disables healing. This makes Ramesses an ideal hero for Ancient Ruins and Dark Altar fights in Light and Darkness where Commanders like Richard, Constantine, Takeda are very popular because of the sustain they provide.

Ramesses Best Talent Build

Ramesses

This is the only tree worth going for and although I am not a big fan of the Attack Tree, I’d say that it complements Ramesses’ skills very well.

Never thought I’d say this but El Cid and Ramesses is the way to go. They have it all, damage, disable, durability, heal and even march speed, you do however lose out on AoE control that Yi Seong-Gye provides. Even though I listed Edward and Tomyris as potential pairs for Ramesses, I wouldn’t actually use them if I have other alternatives.
