The Information and Technology Ministry on Wednesday banned Rise of Kingdoms along with 117 other popular games and apps. The mobile apps banned by the government had “issues around security, surveillance and data privacy of Indian users,” IT and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said. So, what now?
First of all, I like to say that do not panic, your account is till safe you just won’t be able to play it. If the ban is eventually lifted you will be able to continue with the game, just pray that you won’t get zeroed. Do not panic sell your account or take advantage of the situation and try to purchase accounts from players that are quitting for good.
That said, the good news is that there are ways that you can still access the game and continue with your normal activities. The bad news however is that it’s illegal to do so. So, it all depends on whether you want to continue playing the game or move on.
If you are someone from and India and would like to move on then there are various alternatives that you can consider, just make sure that they are not China based as sooner or later they might get banned as well.
For those who decided to continue playing then you could consider to do so using a VPN. The problem however is that cheap or free VPN are usually unreliable, so I suggest that you go with a safer, more reliable VPN that protects your data from both sides i.e India and China. It can be a bit expensive but it’s far better than being thrown in a jail. Here are some of my VPN recommendations, some of these you’ve already heard of, others are less popular but reliable.
Most of the above listed VPN provide 3 days to 7 days trial, so you can compare them yourself and see what works for you. Tunnelbear is the only one in this list that provides you a completely free version but it’s very limited 500MB/month but if you choose to upgrade to subscription it’s the cheapest in this list at Rs.110/month or Rs. 1100/year. The other four VPN are much more expensive but they allow you to stream Netflix or other streaming services, so two birds in one stone. Choose what works for you.
As of right now, Indians can still login in to the game as usual without VPN but that could change at any moment. If I am not mistaken it took about 3 days after the announcement for MLBB to block access from India, so I assume it will be the same for RoK as well. For now, continue playing but avoid In App Purchases.
