Tomyris was the warrior queen of the Massagetae. She is said to have personally led her troops into battle to defend her lands against Cyrus the Great of the Achaemenid Empire after Cyrus captures her son in an earlier battle. Most historians say she defeated and killed Cyrius in 530 BCE. To quench Cyrus’ thirst for blood, she beheaded him and thereafter kept his head in a blood-filled wineskin.
Tomyris is a Legendary Commander in Rise of Kingdoms who specializes in leading Archer units. Initially, she was available via The Mightiest Governor event and later via the Card King event. Her main strength is that whenever she attacks a target, she applies a stack of poison on them, the next time she uses her active skill, all existing poison stacks are removed and she deals bonus damage based on the number of stacks the target had.
This Poisoned target also takes increased Skill damage up to 45%, which makes Tomyris one of the best commanders when you need to swarm down a target as your allies deal increased skill damage on that target. That said, Tomyris has many limitations as well:
Arrow of Vengeance
|Rage Requirement: 1000|
Deals direct damage to a single target. If this target is affected by poison, immediately remove the poison and deal poison damage (Damage Factor = Stacks x Poison Factor). If there were more than 10 stacks, increases poison damage (Damage Factor = Stacks x increased Poison Factor).
Direct Damage Factor: 700 / 750 / 800 / 900 / 1000
Poison Factor (Less or equal to 10 stacks): 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40
Poison Factor (More than 10 stacks): 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80
This skill is the reason why Tomyris needs to be secondary always. If Tomyris is Primary, she’ll most likely use her Active Skill before she has 10 Poison Stacks and in the best case scenario she uses her Active on the 10th turn meaning 10 Poison Stacks, which doesn’t make much of a difference. However when she is secondary, there’s a high chance that she uses her active skill on the 11th Turn or above thereby dealing 2x Poison Damage. So, whenever you are using Tomyris make sure that you pair her with a Commander that is suitable as Primary and doesn’t generate rage either via Talents or Skills.
|When attacking cities, increases normal attack damage and decreases counterattack damage by 10%.|
Normal Attack Damage Bonus: 10% / 15% / 20% / 25% / 30%
One of the main reason why Tomyris is no longer a meta commander is because this skill only works when attacking cities. It doesn’t work on other forms of Garrison like Passes, Holy Sites or Flags.
For the Sun
|Increases attack of archer units and gives all attacks a 10% chance to decrease the defense of a single target for 3 seconds.|
Archer Attack Bonus: 10% / 15% / 20% / 25% / 30%
Defense Reduction: 10% / 15% / 20% / 25% / 30%
This is one of her better skills, 30% Archer Attack Bonus is pretty amazing no matter what you are doing and the 30% Defense Reduction debuff is quite significant when swarming a target, as it not only increases your effective normal attack damage and skill damage but also your allies’.
|Gives all regular attacks a chance to poison a single target for 5 seconds (stacks up to 15 times). The poisoned duration is refreshed each time a stack is added. Poisoned targets will take an additional 3% skill damage per stack.|
Probability: 50% / 60% / 70% / 80% / 100%
This is the skill that allows Tomyris to Poison her target. These Poisoned targets also take an additional 3% skill damage per Poison Stack from everyone that’s attacking the target. This is another one of Tomyris’ skill that is highly effective when swarming.
Make sure that you unlock this skill right away after you max her Active Skill, this is her Primary damage skill in a sense.

|Increases normal attack and counterattack damage by 10%. When attacked, reduces the attack of the attacker’s cavalry units by 10%.|
10% Increase in both Normal Attack and Counterattack is pretty good but not as exciting as some of the other Expertise Skills. 10% Cavalry Attack reduction is insignificant to be honest and most Cavalry users ignore that puny attack reduction.
Best Pairings for Tomyris
Tomyris works best as a secondary to Edward. Edward not only has a high rage requirement on his Active skill but he also removes up to 300 Rage right after he uses his Active. This gives Tomyris enough time to apply Poison stacks on the target before she eventually uses her Active.

This is an RNG-based pairing. Artemisia has a 50% chance to silence herself for 3 secs whenever her rage reaches 80%, this silence is actually only active for 1 sec and the previous 2 secs are used to build up rage to 100%. However, 1 sec or 1 turn is more than enough if it means Tomyris can apply one more Poison stack and reach a total of 11 stacks to deal 2x Poison damage. Both Ramesses and El Cid lacks skills that generate which makes them somewhat suitable to pair with Tomyris. The problem however is that these three commanders works way better when paired with either Yi Seong-Gye or with each other.
